TMA Higher Mass Limits Schemes

New South Wales (NSW)

The TMA Higher Mass Limits (HML) Scheme in New South Wales (NSW) is administered by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and allows eligible vehicles to operate at higher mass limits on the NSW road network. This scheme applies to vehicles operating at weights up to the higher limits through either the New South Wales Higher Mass Limits Declaration or a higher mass limits permit.

Regulatory Telematics Requirements:

  • Enrolment in TMA is required for all eligible vehicles of this scheme.
  • TMA self-declarations of vehicle category and axle count is required for vehicles enrolled in this scheme.

Optional Requirements:

  • The requirement for self-declarations can be replaced by Smart OBM Systems, where the system reports combination and mass automatically. All vehicles and trailers used when operating under this scheme must be fitted with Smart OBM systems, and the vehicle must also be enrolled in a Smart OBM reporting scheme in NSW.

Queensland (QLD)

The TMA Higher Mass Limits (HML) Scheme in Queensland is administered by Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Queensland, and allows eligible vehicles to operate at higher mass limits on the Queensland road network. This scheme applies to vehicles operating at weights up to the higher limits through either the Queensland Higher Mass Limits Declaration or a higher mass limits permit. It covers both Class 2 Common Heavy Freight Vehicles and Class 2 Performance-Based Standards (PBS) vehicles.

Regulatory Telematics Requirements:

  • Enrolment in TMA is required for all eligible vehicles of this scheme.
  • TMA self-declarations of vehicle category, axle count, and mass is required for vehicles enrolled in this scheme.

Optional Requirements:
